Texas went 2-2 in the Houston
Regional, eliminating Sam Houston, splitting with St.
John’s and then losing to Rice to have their season
ended short of making their 33rd CWS appearance. The
ball launching Kyle Russell who hit 47 homeruns the
past two seasons will no longer be wearing burnt orange,
but almost the rest of the Horns lineup will. Juniors
Brandon Belt (.319, 6, 65) and Russ Moldenhauer (.355,
1, 39), along with senior catcher Preston Clark (.263,
8, 43) will lead an up and coming lineup filled with
the usual Texas sized talent. However the strongest
part of the UT game could be their pitching staff. Chance
Ruffin (8-3, 1.96) dazzled in his debut with every indication
that he is just getting started. He’ll be backed
by fellow sophomore Brandon Workman (5-2, 5.06) and
senior Austin Wood (7-3, 4.43) who will be looking to
end his collegiate career with a Texas title.
