final 2008 ranking: NR |

The inclusion of the Sooners
into the NCAAs was a hot button topic when the brackets
were announced last spring. Many objected, decrying
that a host of other teams were a more deserving selection.
Nevertheless, the Sooner proved they were a worthy adversary
by beating Vanderbilt twice to eliminate the highly
touted Commodores from title contention. After finishing
a game away from the playing for the Big 12 conference
title and advancing to the final game of NCAA Regional
play, OU is primed to make a run up the ratings this
season. Almost the entire pitching staff returns to
action as well as seven position starters that will
have the Sooners ready to compete in 2009. Offensively
Jamie Johnson(.344, 5, 27, 20 SBs) and Aaron Baker (.315,
9, 61) will fuel the offense while Andrew Doyle (9-4,
4.53) and Ryan Duke (7-5, 3.77) top the pitching staff.
Cameron Seitzer, son of former MLB All Star Kevin Seitzer,
is a nationally recognized freshman who could crack
the Sooner lineup.
