final 2008 ranking: NR |

For years the Wichita State
Shockers have been the cock of the walk in the Missouri
Valley Conference. Missouri State has had some successes,
most notably a CWS appearance in 2003, but hasn’t
been able to cement themselves as the team to beat in
the increasingly competitive conference. That could
change in 2009 as the Bears return a roster full of
talented players that can beat you in a variety of ways.
The Bears return five players who earned all-MVC teams
last season, including two first teamers in first baseman
Ben Carlson (.379, 17, 67) and pitcher Tim Clubb (11-0,
2.52). Carlson will have senior third baseman Brayden
Drake (.342, 6, 51) to help him put runs on the board,
while Clubb will have fellow returning starters Buddy
Baumann (6-4, 4.66) and Aaron Meade (4-3, 5.06, 65 K
in 58 IP) to assist him in keeping runners from crossing
the plate.
