 Last
season LSU captured the hearts of fans in Omaha, but
not the CWS title as the adopted favorite lost twice
to North Carolina to get ousted early. The Tigers did
earn a memorable come-from-behind win over Rice to eliminate
the Owls, but it was a victory of little consequence
considering the Tigers were determined to bring home
another championship banner to display in the new Alex
Box Stadium. The Bayou Bengals’ pitching staff
lacks veteran starters, but does have plenty of young
arms in waiting, the most notable of which is Louis
Coleman (8-1, 1.95) who returned to campus despite being
drafted in the 14th round by the Nationals. The Tigers
to circle the base paths early and often as eight players
with at least 125 at-bats will be back in Baton Rouge.
Blake Dean (.353, 20, 73), Ryan Schimpf (.320, 12, 54)
and a triumvirate of sophomores, DJ LeMahieu (.337,
6, 44), Micah Gibbs (.322, 2, 35) and the human highlight
reel Leon Landry (.271, 5, 26) will keep pitchers on
their toes all season long.
