ALL PING!BASEBALL 2007 PRESEASON TEAM
FIRST TEAM

FIRST TEAM
Not surprisingly James Madison junior outfielder, Kellen Kulbacki and fellow 2006 Collegiate Baseball National Co-Player of the year, Wes Roemer from Cal State Fullerton, lead the inaugural All Ping! 2007 Pre Season First Team. The First Team’s power is showcased by Kulbacki, Clemson first baseman Andy D’Alessio and Vanderbilt third baseman Pedro Alvarez who combined to hit 69 homeruns (24, 23, and 22 respectively) last year. Oklahoma State’s versatile Tyler Mach will take his .364 average and 16 homeruns to second base from third this year, allowing transfer Cowboy Matt Mangini, a Third Team selection, to play the corner. Completing the First Team’s infield is North Carolina shortstop Josh Horton, whose glove and .395 average should continue to unnerve SEC pitchers. Deleware’s Brandon Menchaca and Alabama’s Emeel Salem blend quick bats with speed (a composite .373 average, 16 triples and 64 stolen bases) to fill out the outfield. Virginia’s Sean Doolittle, Rice’s Joe Savery, Wichita State’s Damon Sublett and Georgia Tech’s Matt Wieters complete the offense as utility players who are just as dangerous on the mound as they are in the batter’s box.

Joining Roemer on the hill are Jake Arrieta from TCU and Arkansas’ Nick Schmidt who return to campus after spearheading Team USA to victories this past summer. Strikeout machines David Price of Vanderbilt, also a Team USA pitcher, and Josh Ehmke of Samford (287 K’s in 219 IP combined) join Nick Chigges from the College of Charleston, Chris Ashman from Oral Roberts and UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajun Hunter Moody as First Team starters. Cole St. Clair of Rice and Ben Hunter from Wake Forest are the First Team relief pitcher selections. Each struck out an average of a batter per inning and had a sub 2.00 ERA.
