April 15th

Hello world coming to you from the beautiful chuck Vegas aka Charleston IL. Just want to give an update on the past week of baseball for the EIU panthers. This past weekend Eastern took 2 of 3 from the Morehead State Eagles as they visited town. The biggest win was in the rubber game as EIU came back from an early 4-0 deficit. The bats came alive in the second game scoring 14 times in the seven inning contest. Overall it was a very successful weekend. Last night EIU took a visit to Champaign to play the Fighting Illini. It really was  tough game with the offense never really coming alive. In the end the score was pretty lopsided with U of I winning by nine. But that is why baseball is so great there is always tomorrow. This coming weekend we head to Tennessee Tech to take on the defending tourney champs. Should be a good series hopefully the panthers can come out on top. Till next time you stay classy….

Opening Day

Today is the beginning of the major league baseball season and I’m really excited about the start of another baseball season. While the college season is in full swing with conference play already on its way there still is nothing like major league baseball. Anyway back to college baseball the panthers have not had the season they would of liked so far but we are playing much better of late. This past Easter weekend the panthers took two of three from a very good Austin Peay University baseball team. For me personally I have missed the last eight games with an ankle injury but I’m looking forward to get back in the action this midweek. The panthers host Illinois college and then go to Chicago State. This weekend the panthers host Morehead State University. Hopefully the panthers can keep up the momentum and success at home. Until next time

Big Win!

Down in beautiful Alabama playing the University of Alabama Birmingham. After dropping the first game of the series panthers came out today with some fight and put up 12 runs to grab the victory. Bunch of people contributed today to the victory but none was more important than the job the pitchers and defense played. MIke Recchia threw extremely well keeping the panthers in the game from the start. But the best performance came for Mike Hoekstra who threw 4 1/3 scoreless ball to close out the game. Defense played flawless baseball which was important in the victory as well. Really glad to see Hoekstra back after having arm problems the past two years. Time to write a twleve page paper. Just want to get a shout out to the parents who came down and supported us. Thank you

Game 1 in Nashville

Tough loss for the pnathers today against Belmont. On a beautiful February day in Nashville panthers jumped out to an early lead but were unable to come back late in the game when we needed to. Looking forward getting back out there tommorow with little bit better results. Would like to say thanks to all the parents who drove down and supported us today. Till next time

Off to Nashville!!!

Its been a while since my last post been busy getting after it on the baseball diamond. This past weekend the panthers opened up at Southeastern Louisiana University. Sure was nice to head south and see some nice weather because its been forever since Charleston has seen it. The first game was a tough loss after blowing a lead in the 9th losing 6-5 but overall we played well. The other two games didn’t go as well either. Both ended in losses of five or more runs. Not exactly the way EIU would like to start the season but this weekend is another chance to get back after it. EIU is heading to Nashville to take on Belmont University. Belmont is 3-0 after sweeping Evansville in the opening weekend. This is the second time EIU will play Belmont in the past four years. In 2007 Belmont took two of three from EIU with two walkoff hits. Looking forward to getting back out there and showing a better performance than last week. Time for bed got weights tommorow morning then off to Nashville. Till next time
