Bryan Conger enters the season at the helm of the Tarleton Texan. He had a very successful first season where he led the Texans into their first trip to the LSC postseason tournament in six years and turned heads, upsetting the No. 1 seeded and nationally ranked-Cameron Aggies in the first round.Check out his blog here.

Spotlight Player of the Week
Clint Robinson
University of Troy

Troy University’s head baseball coach Bobby Pierce has continually set high goals for his team; however the toppling of elevated expectations has become old hat for the Trojans. Troy has won back-to-back conference championships (the Atlantic Sun in 2005 and Sun Belt in 2006), and entered the current season as a legitimate NCAA Regional contender with ambitions of surpassing their Tuscaloosa regional runner-up finish last year. If the left-handed bat of 6-4, 225 pound slugging senior Clint Robinson has anything to do with it, the boys from Troy, Alabama will be playing well into June.

Robinson, a first baseman/designated hitter who has added right field to his skill set, is the only four-year starter during the Pierce Era at Troy. If he can continue to avoid the nagging injuries that plagued him last spring (he pulled hamstring on a stretch at first base) he has a chance to put his name at the top of nine Troy career statistical categories career lists, including hits, runs, RBIs and total bases. This year #27 has helped lead Troy to wins over Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, Michigan, Alabama and Arkansas, to keep them in the hunt for a national ranking.

Batting in the heart of the order, Robinson has started every game this season and is hitting .333, launching 10 homeruns and 33 RBIs on the still young season. He is leading the team with multiple hit games with 10 and multiple RBI games with eight. This past Friday Robinson hit a grand slam in the third inning that put the Trojans up early and they held on for a 7-6 win over FIU.

Last year Robinson hit .343 in 51 games last season with eight homeruns and 38 RBI. He suffered a pulled hamstring on a stretch at first base on 3/14 against Georgia Southern, costing him some time out of the lineup. He quickly returned but soon reinjured it on March 22nd against Alabama. When he came back to lineup full time against FIU on April 16th, he delivering a game-tying two-run homer and an RBI single in the Trojans’ 7-4 win. Robinson was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament team after going 5-for-16 (.312) in the tournament with five runs scored and had two hits in each of the last three games of the NCAA Regional, including a home run in a win against Southern Miss.
