Spotlight Player of the Week
Tyson BrummetT
UCLA

UCLA senior right-hander Tyson Brummett has won three Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors in 2007 season, leading the surging Bruins back into the national rankings. In his most recent start on Friday, May 4th, Brummett registered his sixth win in his last six starts to up his record to 9-4 for the year. The Salem, Utah native overcame allowing five runs (only four earned) off nine hits in 6.2 innings by striking out five Cal Bears to keep him amongst the national leaders in both wins and strikeouts (88 K’s). In 15 appearances this year, Brummett has logged a 2.92 ERA in 104.2 innings and only allowed 22 walks.

Brummett has earned the victory in each of his last six starts and, prior to Friday’s outing, he had pitched a complete game in each of his last three starts (and four of his last six) to become just the 14th pitcher in UCLA history to record six or more complete games in a season.

Earlier this season, Brummett was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game victory in UCLA's Pac-10 opener at Stanford on Friday, March 30. The senior right-hander also earned the weekly honor after recording his second complete game in as many outings on Friday, Feb. 23 at Cal State Fullerton, where he struck out a season-high 10 batters.

Last year Brummett appeared in 17 games, making 15 starts and hurling 97.2 innings (third-most on the team). He compiled a 6-7 record, 4.52 ERA and fanned 83 batters while issuing just 32 walks. He recorded 12 strikeouts and no walks in 8.0 innings pitched, allowing two runs (one earned) off six hits in his second victory of the season at #17 NC State to earn his first Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week recognition.

UCLA has now won 19 of its last 24 games, the team's best such 24-game span since 1997 (when the Bruins last went to Omaha). The Bruins, play at Pepperdine on Tuesday (the Waves are 22-5 at home) and at Arizona State this weekend (May 11-13).
