A
griffin is a mythical creature with the body of a
lion and the head and wings of an eagle... it's pretty
much Napolean Dynamites' favorite animal, right behind
the legendary half lion-half tiger, "Liger".
Canisius Golden Griffins' junior Kevin Mahoney
played with awesome skills last week when
he hit .556 in the Griffins’ five games and
had 10 hits in his last 15 at-bats. The third baseman
stroked four home runs on the week, including a school
record tying trio of longballs in the team’s
10-9 come-from-behind victory over Siena on Sunday.
Mahoney also led the Griffs with seven runs scored,
11 RBIs and a sweet 1.333 slugging percentage.
For the season Mahoney leads the MAAC with his 10
home runs and a .721 slugging percentage and is fourth
in batting average (.378), second in RBIs (36) and
third in total bases (80).
If Sidd Finch, the fictional Mets' pitching prospect
with a 168 mph fastball, would have been a real pitcher,
he probably would have put up stats similar to Duke
sophomore Christopher Manno did last
week. Manno struck out 16 batters over a combined 7.2
scoreless innings in a pair of starts against the N.C.
Central Eagles and Clemson Tigers.
Manno opened the week with two perfect
innings in a combined no hitter against N.C. Central
before receiving a promotion to the weekend rotation
on Saturday against Clemson. He was nothing short of
dominant against the Tigers, striking out 12 batters
over 5.2 scoreless innings to lead Duke to a 10-1 win
on Saturday.

A wolf hasn't been as impressive in an athletic performance
as Northern State's senior Adam Kampsen
since Michael J. Fox turned into a werewolf and led
the Beacontown High School Beavers to the regional
basketball championship back in 1985. Last week Kampsen
batted .500 to lead NSU to a 3-3 record for the week.
He went 6-for-8 with a grand slam and three total
homeruns in the Wolves' sweep over NSIC foe Minnesota-Crookston
early in the week. Over the weekend he came up big
once again with a pair of infield singles in the Wolves’
4-2 win over Bemidji State on Sunday. Kampsen finished
the week with four homers, 12 RBIs and six runs scored
in six games played.
